Main Campus, 5 April – ‘Lines Performance’ was carried out by Universiti Sains Malaysia Tionghua Language Society (PBT USM) Drama Club on 5 April 2024 via Webex from 8.00pm to 10.00pm.

Drama Club was a good platform for students interested in acting or dreaming of becoming an actor to join and learn the basics of acting.

Drama Club leader, Joshua Tan Hong En said that this activity theme aimed to introduce USM students to the Drama Club and hoped that they could learn to express certain emotions or scenes by saying only the script.

“We have invited our senior to attend and give lessons to the participants about drama knowledge as he had some experience in drama,” Joshua said.

“This was the first time he had organised an online activity, so some technical problems were causing the whole flow to not be very smooth,” he added.

A special guest of the activity, Tao Foo, emphasised that pausing at the appropriate points in saying the lines could have different performance effects.

“As a good actor, you need to try using different tone to express the same lines, and it will be given variance emotion to the audience,” he said.

A participant, Loo Yen Kee, Arts 1, said she heard that a senior would come and share his experience in drama, so she decided to attend this activity. She believed that it would benefit her future in her acting journey.

“Through this lesson, I learnt that lines can be delivered in many ways. Although the lines are same but standing in different characters, the expression will be various,” she added.
